About UMSFLEC

Universiti Malaysia Sabah Flexible Education Centre

At UMSFLEC, We offer Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework and Mixed Mode) programmes tailored for working professionals and lifelong learners who want to advance their education without pausing their careers.

Our programmes blend flexibility with quality, drawing on the expertise of UMS academicians and industry-experienced visiting lecturers. Each module is carefully scheduled to accommodate busy professionals while meeting both academic standards and industry expectations.

The story of UMSFLEC began long before its official establishment on 1 December 2006. It traces back to October 1999 in Sandakan, where a visionary initiative led by YBhg. Tan Sri Prof. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Abu Hassan Othman planted the seed of flexible education at UMS. Initially known as Pusat Perkhidmatan Rundingan & Latihan (PPRL) and later as PLUMS (External Centre of UMS), the centre was founded to provide opportunities for those unable to pursue traditional full-time studies.

Originally operating under UMS Investment Holdings Sdn. Bhd., the centre was officially recognized as one of UMS’s Centres of Excellence on 1 August 2018, marking a new era in innovative education delivery.

In April 2024, the centre was rebranded as the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Flexible Education Centre (UMSFLEC) — a contemporary identity reflecting our inclusive and forward-thinking approach to lifelong learning.

Today, UMSFLEC stands proudly at the forefront of flexible and accessible education in Malaysia, empowering individuals from all walks of life to achieve their academic aspirations — anytime, anywhere.
